Inspired by Artists

Mission
3Arts supports Chicago artists—specifically, women, people of color, and people with disabilities working in music, theater, and visual arts—in order to enrich, strengthen, and sustain the arts and our community.

Vision
3Arts recognizes that art is essential to the wellbeing and vibrancy of our lives. Art fuels, expands, and deepens our thoughts and emotions, even influences our futures by opening new doors and encouraging new paths. It also has the fortitude to connect us to each other in essential ways, linking us through active, creative participation.

Although it seems obvious, it often goes overlooked that without artists there is no art. Yet it is precisely because of an artist’s creative labor and production that moving and inspiring art exists. Artists are the essential core of our culture.

3Arts is dedicated to the artists whose work shapes, shifts, and touches our lives.

Values
Community—we recognize that artists play a central role in building a healthy and vibrant community.

Continuity—we believe that supporting the current generation of underrepresented artists will stimulate the production of exceptional and inspiring work that will, in turn, kindle the next generation of artists.

Diversity—we believe that multiple and divergent perspectives stimulate a culture of vitality and hope. We therefore have an emphasis on supporting women, people of color, and people with disabilities, since their work is not yet equitably represented in mainstream culture.

Integrity—we are committed to operating all of our programs in support of artists with a high standard of efficiency, responsiveness, effectiveness, and clarity of both purpose and process.

Opportunity—we acknowledge the critical need for artists to have time and space, away from the constraints and responsibilities of everyday life, in order to immerse themselves in the artistic process.

Originality—we seek to encourage artists whose work explores new territories, challenges traditions, and offers unique and thought-provoking perspectives.
