The Tree of Life DNA connects us all, and Bill Peterson tells us about it Tasteful 3D animation and the star of TV's CSI teach visitors about DNA. |
To build the Field Museum's DNA Discovery Center, contractors literally tore out a wall and replaced it with huge picture windows to reveal scientists hard at work in a state-of-the-art molecular lab. To explain how their work expands the boundaries of scientific knowledge, we produced a six minute film that plays in a companion theater. The program explains how DNA connects all life on earth, even to organisms from billions of years ago.
We developed the script with museum exhibit developers, carefully planning animations to illustrate each step of a complicated narrative. Liz and Martin spent several months creating the 3D animation, as well as shooting several brief live action segments.
In a minor coup, exhibit developers secured Bill Peterson, of TV's CSI fame, to serve as narrator. Peterson graciously donated his time, and Martin directed his performance remotely as Bill sat in an LA studio.
